More blocks from Espritpatch

I have finally made my blocks for the Boho Heart Quilt Along. I haven't caught yet but at least I've made some progress!

One more Dresden block from week 3, not cut to size yet but otherwise finished. The centre is hand appliqué. I only need one more Dresden block to finish week 3...

From week 5, the Courthouse serie: 2 mini, 3 medium and 2 larger framed squares,  1 spool and 1 courthouse block. I need 6 more blocks to finish this series

And one little heart appliqué block finished for weeks 6 & 7. I have a ...

To Dresden from Espritpatch

Only 2 little blocks but still that's a lot for me at the moment. It is a lot because I hadn't touched my machine for weeks so it felt good to finally turn it on. It is a lot because with my current (temporary) set up I can't really sew in the evening to avoid the noise. It is a lot because I've not had much time for anything remotely creative lately and when I do, I'm usually too tired/lack any motivation. So let's cling onto a small accomplishment and be happy with ...

Farmer's Wife from Espritpatch

Before the holidays, I finally cut out one new block for the Farmer's Wife quilt

39 [Friendship] that I completed on our return

While sewing #39, I also cut out and worked on another block

30 [End of Day] since both could be made without templates. For this one, I decided to simplify the construction, constructing squares out of 2 strips and making HSTs out of the squares. The fabric placement is different from the book but I figured that this is my interpretation of the quilt and it would be fine this way.

Next on my list were ...

Some Dear Jane sewing from Espritpatch

I thought that I might spend lots of time sewing last week while on holidays but in the end I made the most of the snow and the beautiful weather and enjoyed some skiing and relaxing. Getting there and back took quite some time so the car journey was a good opportunity to work on my Dear Jane.

The assembling of rows A & B is now half completed. Not the most exciting but I don't want to leave it all to the end.

    G11 decisions, decisions (13 pieces + sashing)

I worked on this block in the last car journey ...

Working on a UFO from Espritpatch

It is still early in the year so I'm still trying to stay focused. First project I've picked up to work on is a very old UFO (>10 years). I started this paper pieced Storm at Sea at the time I used to attend a local quilting group (i.e. before I had 3 children!).

It's all been packed ever since, not quite sure why as it was a rather small project. Anyway since I listed it on my UFO list for this year and I knew where to find it (always a bonus!), it got some ...

Boho Heart - HST from Espritpatch

This week is week 7 of the Boho Heart quilt-along and I have just recently finished the last 2 blocks for... week 2. My sewing time and energy has completely deserted me sadly. Hopefully with the return of the sun, I will also want to create more? But for now, here are my only 2 blocks for this month

And all the HST blocks for the Boho Heart Sew Along

Boho Heart HST from Espritpatch

Week 2 of the Boho Heart quilt-along (early February) was all about HST. The blocks were not necessarily difficult but I didn't get to them until the last week of Febraury and I am still sadly 2 blocks short... Here are the ones I have made so far.

Windblown

16-patch HST

9-patch HST

Pinwheel Courthouse

Shoo Fly

And 3 simple HST

And while working on these pink blocks, I also made 2 pink blocks for my 365 Challenge quilt
13 May

and 12 June

All of these blocks were from February.

I am very much behind with this quilt-along ...

Turtle Shell from Espritpatch

I was hoping to post about my quilted bear rug today that I loaded on my quilting frame last night but I ran out of quilting thread.... so I wasn't able to finish it. I wondered whether to keep it on the frame or to load another quilt instead and eventually this afternoon I decided to take it off. So the next quilt will go on and I'm hoping that by the time I finish it off, more thread will have arrived.

Anyway while I was finishing my quilt tops and backing this past week, I also finished ...

Star from Espritpatch

One more Super Mario block! While I was making Shy Guy, I ran out of black squares so I picked this block, Star, which had only 3 colours: yellow, black and the light yellow background. I figured that if I pieced the blocks leaving out gaps for the black squares, I could easily slot them in when I had cut more. Well, it started quite well but I ended with a big puzzle and I confused myself in the end. I had all these series of squares of various lengths and combinations attached to one another that it took quite ...

Retro Tetro blocks from Espritpatch

I haven't really posted any of the blocks I've made for the Retro Tetro Quilt Along yet, not sure why I missed them so far but here is a catch up, which is also what I've done this week with those blocks! After the cutting was complete (well I haven't cut all the background pieces yet), the first steps was to make small and big HST, I did all these in October.

From the big HST, we made a new block variation the diagonal stripe, all done in October too

And that's where I lost ...

Mushrooms from Espritpatch

The weather was OK on Sunday, i.e. it didn't rain so we took the opportunity to go on a walk in our local RSPB wood. It is only down the road but I must admit I had only been once! While we were walking, we saw lots of fungi/mushrooms including these beautiful but dangerous ones

I remember seeing pictures of those on a poster my mum had from our local chemist warning that it was a dangerous species of mushroom but I had never, until now, seen one in reality. There were so many on our walks ...

Snowflake again from Espritpatch

We're so close to finishing now! Only 5 more blocks to have a quilt top. The assignement for last week was just 2 blocks, which I completed but didn't post until now!

Block 16

and block 17

While I was making those 2 blocks, I thought I might as well finish all the blocks since I was so close! So off I went and completed block 18

and block 19

I was nearly there with block 20 until I realised that I hadn't counted my squares accurately when I cut my fabric. I am missing 3 white ...

Snowflake quilt-along week 3 from Espritpatch

This week we are making 3 more blocks for the quilt, blocks 9, 10 and 11. With these additional 3 blocks, the snowflake is really starting to show now. I love where this is going.

With these additional 3 blocks done, I have sewn 14 blocks in September, I think this is a long time since I have done so much patchwork and it feels good. So good that I might have started on other quilt-along.... Watch this space!

2 more Super Mario blocks from Espritpatch

These last few days, I finished 2 more blocks that had been started 8 years ago...

Now I have the question mark box

And the Venus fly trap block, this one is self-drafted from a google image

I have no more half prepared blocks now. I'll ask my daughter to pick the next one for me since she has claimed the quilt.... when it will be finished. Who knows how long that will be...

Fire Flower block from Espritpatch

It was probably the easiest block to make since it was already over half done but at least I completed one more block! Meet Fire Flower:

When I picked it up, I thought I was ready to go, only to realise that I didn't have any background or black squares cut out. So that was the first step before sewing. I cut quite a stash hoping they will last me for the most of the other blocks too.

The next block will be the question mark which is hardly started.

Snowflake week 2 from Espritpatch

For week 2 of the quilt-along, we are sewing blocks 6 to 8. 6 and 8 are mainly background fabric with a little white, whereas block 7 has one tip of the snowflake.

With all the squares cut off and the HST assembled and trimmed, it goes quite quickly to make the blocks. I am happy that all the fabric comes from stash.

The final week of the quilt along will be the assembly of the quilt blocks but I went a little ahead of myself with all the blocks I have made so far.
